Getting your visa

European Union nationals can enter Reunion Island simply with their passports.
Although being a French overseas department, Réunion is not part of the Schengen area.

Foreigners who are not EU citizens (with exceptions) must apply to the French consulate in their country of residence for a visa, different from that for France.

Foreign travelers with a visa for one of the Schengen area countries must request an extension to enter and stay on the island.

However, there are three countries benefiting from an exemption: India, South Africa and China.
